Alan Kirkman Tram Building Service

Alan Kirkman offers a model tramcar building service in 3.5mm, 4mm and 7mm scales. Small scale trams etc. are built to your requirements.

Scratch building: he will consider building tramcar models to meet your specifications.
Kit assembly: he will assemble and paint any model tramcar kit currently available.
Motorizing he will motorize die cast tramcar models such as:
- Corgi OO gauge Blackpool Balloon car
- EFE OO gauge Leeds Horsfield car
- Corgi O gauge PCC
using an underfloor or underseat mechanism to provide an assembled ready-to-run R.T.R. tramcar at about £80 within the UK.

PC Models

PC Models was taken over by David Voice in about 1994 and then Alan Kirkman in 2008 to continue production of the existing components. Alan manufactures a small range of traction unit kits and tramcar parts, mainly in OO gauge but some in O gauge.

Traction Unit Kits

These traction units are etched brass kits requiring soldering and are not suitable for the beginner. The chassis units are fully compensated and include the 12 volt DC motor. They are supplied with OO gauge (16.5mm) spaced wheels. However, the units are designed to take wheels for any track gauge from 12mm to 21mm.

All the mechanisms are also available with wheels to fine scale tramway standards.

Four-wheel trucks

These mechanisms represent the tramcar trucks fitted to normal 4 wheel/2 axle trams.

Tramway parts

Alan Kirkman manufactures and supplies a range of mainly etched brass British tramcar spare parts in OO gauge including:

Fine scale kit for a spring base trolley pole, with parts for either fixed head or swivel head.
Fine scale kit for a bow collector for a double deck tramcar.
A sheet of over 250 items of overhead wire fittings with full instructions.
A 10m coil of hard drawn nickel silver wire 0.3mm diameter for overhead wire.
Traditional reversible back wooden slat type 'garden seats' for the top deck of open top tramcars. Kits are available for both double and single seats.

Resin moulded models

Alan Kirkman produces a one piece resin moulded body kit for a Blackpool English Electric Railcoach.
